The name ‘Elinvar’ comes from the French word elasticité (elasticity) and invariable (invariable). The original Elinvar was invented by Charles Édouard Guillaume at the end of the 19th century. This non-magnetic alloy of iron, nickel and chrome decisively improved the precision of watches, maritime chronometers and other scientific precision instruments. Elinvar thereby was used to optimize a lot of different instruments, watches in particular, while they all kept their own, individual function, brand and look on the outside. In 1920, Guillaume received the Nobel Prize for Physics for his invention.
As a company name, Elinvar stands for a comprehensive, digital and customized B2B2C platform for asset managers and private banks.
